Pensacola Housing at Celebration Day

Posted on August 14, 2014 at 7:30 am by Dawn Corrigan

15-1On August 1, 2014, the City of Pensacola held a Celebration Day for city employees.

The event, which took place at the Amphitheater at Community Maritime Park, included a barbeque, a live DJ, a dessert competition, employee recognition awards, a raffle, and games and prizes.

For a small city office, Housing did pretty well!

15-215-3Our two entries in the Dessert Competition both won ribbons. This came as no surprise to Housing staff. We love to eat! Our potlucks are the stuff of legend.

Housing Counselor Vicki Chilton took First Place in the Cake category for her Key Lime Cupcakes (left) and Housing Counselor Nicole Louie took Second Place in Pies for her Apple Pie Cheesecake (right).

For the event, City Hall created a “Class of 2014 Yearbook” showing the “Staff Superlatives,” which hearkened back to those “Most Likely to …” awards you might remember from your old high school yearbooks.

From the Class of 2014, Executive Secretary Ping Tayabas was recognized as a “Life Saver”: an employee always willing to jump in and help.

Those of us who work with Ping every day know this is absolutely true!

15-5Our team consisting of Housing Counselor Vicki Chilton, Operations Manager Donna Cash, and Receptionist Amy Peyton won a glorious victory in the Water Transfer Race against their worthy competitors from Parks and Recreation.

Here’s a picture of the victors with their winning spoons.

In the raffle, Housing Quality Standards Inspector Edward Milteer (right) won a gift certificate, and Vicki Chilton won a gas grill from Pensacola Energy.

Housing staff who attended Celebration Day were: Marsha Bazinet, Donna Cash, Vicki Chilton, Dawn Corrigan, Nicole Louie, Edward Milteer, Amy Peyton, and Marcie Whitaker.

Many thanks to Vicki for serving as our representative on the Planning Committee; and to Mayor Hayward, City Council, City Administrator Colleen Castille, and the rest of City Hall for recognizing the hard work of city employees, and for putting on such a fun event!
