Box of Socks Smaller

In conjunction with the 5th Annual U-Count Homeless Resource Day, presented by EscaRosa Coalition on the Homeless (ECOH) on Thursday, January 26, 2017, the Pensacola Housing Division is currently hosting a donation drive, “Fill a Box with Socks.” Socks are often cited as a needed item among the homeless population, as they are donated less frequently than other articles of clothing. Housing staff will be distributing socks to the attendees at U-Count, which is a one-day, one stop opportunity for individuals and families experiencing homelessness to access medical care, legal services, and other social services, as well as information about housing and employment.

In 2016, the results of ECOH’s point in time survey showed that there were 796 homeless persons residing in Escambia County, so our goal is to collect 796 pairs of socks. Men, women, and children attend the U-Count event, but the biggest need is probably for new socks in adult sizes M-L, in dark colors.

If there are any socks left over at the end of U-Count, Housing will donate them to United Way for further distribution. Donation boxes are located at the Pensacola Housing Division (420 W Chase St) and in City Hall. We’ll be accepting donations from now until Thursday, January 19. Please help fill the box with socks!
