Four people were injured this afternoon after a car ran a stop sign and struck an ECAT bus in downtown Pensacola.
The crash occurred around 2 p.m. at the intersection of South E and West Government streets.
Officer Ronald Boutin said Rachel Wehring, 22, of Pensacola was northbound on E Street in a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta when she failed to stop at a stop sign. The car then struck an ECAT bus, which was westbound on Government Street. The bus left the road, struck a fire hydrant and went through a fence before stopping.
There were six passengers on the bus at the time of the crash. Two passengers on the bus – Lisa Cooke, 55, and Samon Toler, 22, both of Pensacola - and the bus driver – Michael Brooks, 54, of Pensacola - were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. Wehring also was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, Boutin said.
Wehring, who was wearing a seatbelt, was issued a citation for running a stop sign, Boutin said.
