A man and woman wanted in connection with the theft of a woman’s purse from her vehicle on February 18 and who then went shopping with the victim’s stolen credit card the next day have been arrested.
Arrested on Saturday were:
- Derick Levell Jones, 30, no permanent address. He was charged with burglary, grand theft, fraudulent use of a credit card, and petit theft.
- Sheena Renise Outing, 30, no permanent address. She was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, dealing in stolen property and fraud (providing false ownership information on pawn items).
Detective Gilbert Galloway Jr. said the suspects were identified during the investigation of the initial theft, which occurred sometime between 4 and 5 p.m. February 18 in the 200 block of South Florida Blanca Street. The male suspect initially approached the victim and her husband as they were standing outside their home and asked if he could stay at their house for a while because he didn’t have anywhere to stay. The woman’s husband told the suspect they were unable to provide any type of shelter.
The woman told police she then walked to her vehicle, put her purse on the back seat, sat in the driver’s seat, and closed the door. She said the suspect opened the back door, grabbed her purse and ran. The victim chased the suspect on foot and saw him jump into the front passenger seat of an older model silver/gray sedan with dark tint. The car then fled the scene. Galloway said the victim’s husband uses a walker and was unable to help chase the suspect.
On February 19, the suspects were seen on surveillance video in a local department store where they purchased approximately $2,300 worth of merchandise using the victim’s credit card, which had been inside her purse.
Also, Outing pawned several items on February 21 that had been purchased with the victim’s stolen credit card.
