Bayview Senior Center Featured in
2020 FRPA Facilities Showcase
The City of Pensacola's Bayview Senior Center has been selected and featured in the 2020 Florida Recreation and Parks Association Journal, which features newly designed or renovated park or recreation facility spaces that serve the community throughout the state of Florida.
Nominations from parks and facilities across Florida are submitted, and finalists are selected among an awards committee organized by the Florida Recreation and Park Association. The annual showcase features, parks, community centers, dog parks, aquatic spaces, athletic fields and trails among other recreation spaces that are open to the public. Municipal projects are displayed to recognize the hard work that went into the project and highlight the achievements made throughout the state.
The well-loved Bayview Senior Center has been a part of the City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation Department since the 1970s and completed renovation at the end of 2019 after more than 40 years of use. Facility renovations were completed by the City of Pensacola's Public Works and Facilities Department and include:
- New tile flooring, wall coverings and furniture to modernize the space
- Improved lighting and fixtures to make the space brighter and more inviting
- Library upgrades that include new seating and computer stations for technology access and adult programming
- New hand railings in the hallways and common areas, and expanded and updated restrooms to improve accessibility
As a submission qualifier, nominees are asked how their projects impact their local community and how they meet
FRPA's pillars to build, benefit and advance health, community, economy and environment throughout the state of Florida. Being located in Bayview Park, home to many natural resources, including 461 trees, Bayview Senior Center creates a positive environmental impact that reduces pollution and energy consumption resulting in $17,979 in stormwater mitigation savings. As a facility that exclusively serves Pensacola's 50+ community, programming helps improve the physical and mental well-being of older residents, which strongly impacts the economic viability of the region.
Bayview Senior Center's 2020 FRPA Facility Showcase feature can be found in the 2020 FRPA Winter Journal.
