REMINDER: Bruce Beach Revitalization Open House Tonight
The City of Pensacola invites the public to provide input on the Bruce Beach Revitalization Project, which is a catalytic project of the Pensacola Waterfront Framework Plan supporting the city's goal of creating a more connected public waterfront in Pensacola.
The city is hosting an In-Person Open House today, Wednesday, June 23 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Community Maritime Park Amphitheater (Behind Blue Wahoos Stadium, 301 W. Main St.). Free online registration is available through Eventbrite. Registration is not required, but is encouraged for planning purposes.
The city also hosted a Virtual Presentation and Discussion Tuesday, June 22. A recording of the June 22 virtual workshop is available here.
All residents, business owners and stakeholders are encouraged to participate so they can learn about project updates and share feedback that will inform the further development of the project.
Public input is a critical part of the design and engineering process for this project. The community's thoughts, opinions and suggestions are highly valued and will inform design and engineering decisions for this and future phases. The public is also invited to complete an online survey by Friday, July 2 to share their thoughts and feedback on the project. The survey can be accessed here.
"I encourage everyone to provide their input on this project to help us further develop and enhance public access to our beautiful waterfront areas here in the City of Pensacola," Mayor Grover Robinson said. "Bruce Beach is such an important part of Pensacola's rich and diverse history, and I'm looking forward to bringing it back to life for our residents and visitors to enjoy for generations to come."
At the meetings, the engineering and design team will provide an update on how the design has progressed since the last public meeting held in February 2020, share additional details on the phasing and construction schedule and present a strategy for incorporating African American history and heritage into the project.
The Bruce Beach Revitalization Project was initiated as a catalytic project of the Pensacola Waterfront Framework Plan, with the goal of creating a new recreational and educational destination as part of a more connected public realm along the city’s waterfront.
Key project priorities are:
- Connect people to the water
- Restore and enhance local ecology
- Mark and commemorate African American history and heritage at the site
- Design for educational activities, both indoors and outdoors
- Create a cultural and educational destination at the Bay’s edge
The project is currently being designed by the planning and engineering firm HDR, with consistency review from SCAPE
and with continued public input.
