The media is invited to attend a special recognition and photo op on Monday, Oct. 11 at 9:15 a.m. to honor Indigenous Peoples' Day. The event will take place in front of City Hall, 222 W. Main St., where flags representing several historically recognized Southeast tribes will be flying in recognition of Indigenous Peoples' Day. Following the photo op, Mayor Grover Robinson will host his weekly "Mondays with the Mayor" press conference at 9:30 a.m. in the Hagler-Mason Conference Room located on the second floor of City Hall. Mayor Robinson will be joined by special guests representing the Santa Rosa Creek Tribe. Monday's press conference will open with a special recognition of Indigenous Peoples' Day, as declared by Pensacola City Council to be observed on the second Monday in October starting in 2020. Indigenous Peoples' Day honors the nation's indigenous roots, history, traditions and cultural contributions, and is currently celebrated by over 50 municipalities and nine states throughout the country. The press conference will be live streamed from the Mayor's Facebook page at facebook.com/pensacolamayor.
