Pensacola Fire Department Highlights New Training Simulator, Elevated ISO Rating

Pensacola Fire Department demonstrated a new Maritime Fire Training Simulator at Fire Station 4 during Mayor Grover Robinson's weekly press conference today, Monday, March 28. This is the only maritime live fire trainer in the region, and it will be used for a variety of firefighter trainings for both Pensacola Fire Department and other fire departments throughout the area.

Mayor Robinson and Pensacola Fire Chief Ginny Cranor also highlighted PFD's ISO rating moving up to an ISO Class 1, which is the highest score in a 1-10 range. Less than 1% of the 40,000 fire departments in the United States have an ISO Class 1 rating. An ISO fire rating is a score provided to fire departments and insurance companies by the Insurance Services Office. The score reflects how prepared a community or area is for fires.

Mayor Robinson Proclaims April as Autism Acceptance Month in the City of Pensacola

Autism Acceptance Month proclamation

Mayor Grover Robinson officially proclaimed April as Autism Acceptance Month in the City of Pensacola, recognizing the value of people with autism and bringing awareness to the continued struggles that they face to gain equality. Mayor Robinson presented the proclamation to Autism Pensacola, a local nonprofit that serves and advocates for individuals and families affected by autism.

In conjunction with Autism Acceptance Month, the City of Pensacola partnered with Autism Pensacola through the Pensacola Fire Department and Pensacola Police Department to announce the addition of Emergency Sensory Kits in all PPD squad cars and PFD trucks. These bags contain items useful during times of crisis when individuals with autism may experience episodes of sensory overload. The items will help calm the individual and aid in communication between the individual and the first responder, helping ensure that individuals with autism are supported during times of crisis.
