America's First Settlement Trail Installation Underway
Phase I of Historic Trail Installation Coming to Downtown Pensacola
Installation is underway for phase I of the America's First Settlement Trail in downtown Pensacola, which will offer new opportunities for residents and visitors to explore Pensacola's rich history.
The 3-mile historic walking trail is a partnership between the City of Pensacola, Visit Pensacola and the A1S Trail Foundation. The trail will run through the Pensacola Historic District, featuring 20 historic markers and QR codes with information about Pensacola's history and landmarks.
The trail is in the early stages of installation, and the public's patience is appreciated as improvements to the trail continue over the next several weeks during phase I of the project.
The initial paint installation turned out darker than anticipated and will be modified before the trail is finalized. The contractor will also be working to color adjust the paint across sections of driveways in the area to color match as closely as possible, and the city will be coordinating the installation crosswalks at the trail intersections.
In addition to the 20 stops along the trail, benches will be added along the route to enhance the overall experience for residents and visitors as they learn more about America's First Settlement.
Phase I of the trail installation is expected to be completed in early June 2022, with phase II completion anticipated by August 2022. Please stay tuned for more information and updates about this project as it moves forward.
