Mayor begins process of creating public access to Bruce Beach

At the direction of Mayor Ashton Hayward, City staff visited Bruce Beach this week to begin the process of making it accessible to the public.

Several people meet at Bruce Beach

Activating the waterfront and providing connectivity to Maritime Park has been a priority for Hayward since he became mayor in 2011. He is working with staff to make it happen before he leaves office in November.

City Administrator Keith Wilkins and city employees from various departments met with Opening Doors Northwest Florida (formerly Escarosa Coalition on the Homeless) on Wednesday.

The purpose of the meeting was to assess the site and develop a plan for clearing and cleanup level of effort. City staff are working with Opening Doors Northwest Florida to provide resources and information to the people who have been illegally camping in the area.

Site clearing is expected to be completed by November 1.
