Important information regarding Tropical Storm Gordon

The latest forecasts from the National Weather Service indicate Tropical Storm Gordon is expected to make landfall in coastal Mississippi as a weak hurricane on Tuesday night, possibly into Wednesday morning. The Pensacola area has been placed under a tropical storm warning.

At this time, no evacuations have been ordered for Escambia County. However, Escambia County Superintendent Malcolm Thomas has cancelled classes for Tuesday. School is expected to resume Wednesday.

The Pensacola area may experience gusty winds Tuesday afternoon and into the evening. One to two inches of rainfall can be expected.

City officials continue to monitor the weather and will aim to take necessary precautions. We would like to take this opportunity to remind residents to be mindful of impending weather forecasts and access to health and safety services.  

Due to the current forecast residents may experience storm water issues. However, if you see a storm drain that appears to be obstructed, please remove the obstruction.
