City urges residents to make final preparations for Hurricane Michael  

Pensacola has been placed under a hurricane warning by the National Weather Service (NWS) for Hurricane Michael.

The latest track has Michael reaching the Gulf Coast east of Panama City by Wednesday afternoon as a Category 3 storm.

Pensacola is under a storm surge watch. Pensacola can expect to receive heavy rainfall and experience life-threatening winds. 

Escambia County has issued an evacuation order for Zone A as of 12 p.m. October 9. Zone A includes Pensacola Beach, Perdido Key and low-lying areas.

Several shelters have been opened including the one for the general population at Pensacola Bay Center at 201 E Gregory Street. For a complete list, visit Escambia County’s website.

The Citizen Information Line is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. until further notice. Residents with questions may call 850-471-6600.

Pensacola City Hall administrative offices closed at 12 p.m. on Tuesday and will remain closed through Wednesday, October 10.  

City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation Neighborhood Resource Centers will be closing at 4 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 9. Parents with children attending after school programs should plan to pick up their children by 4 p.m. Tuesday. 

Due to impacts of Hurricane Michael, the Pensacola International Airport will be closed and cease all operations starting at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10 until further updates are provided. Please check DIRECTLY with your airline regarding all flight information.

The Port of Pensacola has been placed at Port Condition ZULU by the United States Coast Guard, Captain of the Port, Mobile Area. Under Condition ZULU, the Port and all surrounding navigable waterways are closed to ALL vessel traffic and all port and vessel operations are suspended until further notice.

Escambia County Schools will be closed all day Wednesday, October 10.

Governor Rick Scott has declared a State of Emergency for 35 counties, including Escambia County. He has ordered state offices to close through Thursday, October 11 in the affected counties. 

Residents should have their emergency plan completed. Residents should have three days of food and water, as well as all needed medications. 

City officials continue to monitor the weather and will aim to take necessary precautions. We would like to take this opportunity to remind residents to be mindful of impending weather forecasts and access to health and safety services.
