Detective Mark Norman named Pensacola Police Department’s Officer of the Year

Detective Mark Norman has been named the Pensacola Police Department’s Officer of the Year for his persistence, patience and tenacity of a complex narcotics trafficking case that resulted in four federal indictments.

In 2015, Detective Norman was a new officer with Pensacola Police Department and assigned a cocaine trafficking case. He spent three years and countless hours of home and social media surveillance associated with the suspects. Detective Norman was the one to discover that the suspects had money laundering operations out of state. The United States Postal Inspector’s Office was able to use Detective Norman’s police work to research large sums of money sent in parcels. During the execution of search warrants, more than $300,000 in cash and $300,000 worth of jewelry and high-end clothing were discovered.

Detective Norman was nominated for Officer of the Year by his sergeant because he was the turning point in the investigation that tied all aspects of the case together.

Aaron Booker, Joseph Booker, Kaishawndra Lyons and Uy Nguyen all received federal indictments and pleaded guilty to the charges.

Congratulations and great work, Detective Norman.

Former Mayor Ashton Hayward appointed to Triumph Gulf Coast board

One of Governor Rick Scott's last acts in office was appointing former Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward to the Triumph Gulf Coast Board.
Current Pensacola Mayor Grover Robinson said in his weekly press conference on Monday that he is hopeful the City will now have an ally for Triumph Gulf Coast.

“We’re certainly glad to get a Triumph member from Escambia County,” Mayor Robinson said. “We hope that will help us in dealing with Project Titan as we move forward on Triumph.”

Project Titan is the second phase of the aircraft Maintenance Repair Overhaul Campus at Pensacola International Airport. The $210 million dollar project would add an additional three hangers to the site and bring nearly 1,300 jobs to the area. ST Aerospace Engineering is the campus' main tenant. The project was initiated during Hayward’s administration. Mayor Robinson has been working to secure the rest of the funding.

Hayward fills a vacant seat and is appointed for a term beginning January 4, 2019, and ending July 1, 2019.

Hayward is currently the President of Andrews Institute Research and Education Foundation.

Don’t forget! Mayor Robinson’s town hall is January 24
