As Fire Chief, Ginny Cranor is responsible for the operations of the six (6) fire stations along with the men and women serving the City of Pensacola through the provision of Fire Protection Services. The Fire Department serves a diverse population of almost 60,000 citizens across a 39.7 square mile area, including a dense downtown area, suburban homes, shopping centers, and a busy airport and port facility.

In 1993, Chief Cranor moved to Pensacola to attend the Emergency Medical Technician program at Pensacola Junior College and began volunteering as a Firefighter with Escambia County. In 1998, she chose to purse a full-time fire service career and began with the City of Pensacola Fire Department. At Pensacola Junior College she earned three Associates in Science degrees: Fire Science, Emergency Medical Services, and Nursing. Chief Cranor attended the University of West Florida where she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, focusing on community and public health. She is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and has received multiple professional certifications.

Chief Cranor has also worked part-time as a Fire/Medic, EMT/Paramedic, and a Registered Nurse in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She has served eighteen years as a Fire Academy instructor with a focus on: Terrorism Response Training, Live Fire Training, Paramedic/EMT Training, and Florida Firefighter Minimum Standards.
