The Director of Sanitation Services & Fleet Management serves at the pleasure of the Mayor, and is responsible for the administration of activities related to three operational divisions; Sanitation Services, Code Enforcement and Fleet Management.
John Pittman was hired as the Director of Sanitation Services & Fleet Management in June of 2019, coming from DeKalb County, Georgia, where he served as the Assistant Director of Residential Collections. He previously worked as the Assistant Director of Solid Waste for the City of Clearwater, Florida and Solid Waste Senior Foreman for the City of Largo, Florida.
Mr. Pittman has over 25 years of experience, he began his career in sanitation as a solid waste worker on the back of a garbage truck collecting trash. Mr. Pittman earned his college degrees while working full-time. He has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Barry University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Management from the University of Phoenix and an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Florida Metropolitan University. Mr. Pittman has completed the training courses for Collection Manager (SWANA) and Florida Foundations Basic Emergency Management Academy (FEMA). He also maintains the following professional memberships; Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) and the SWANA Applied Research Foundation Collection Group Committee.
